Misc Law Ramblings: Stand Your Ground

The STAND YOUR GROUND, or CASTLE DOCTRINE as it is also known, comes from early Roman times, but was established as law in 1628. It stated, quite simply, that a man has no duty to retreat from a place he calls home, if he has a legal right to be there. In the last century, it has been strengthened into the STAND YOUR GROUND laws,which resulted from "BEARD v US" (1895) that allowed, in addition, immunity from prosecution for criminal homicide. Currently, a majority of states have either the Castle Doctrine (home defense), the Stand Your Ground law, and/or a combination of these two. They are:

These laws are constantly being debated in Legislatures across America, and there be some I missed because they are new, or have been repealed.
